KAPITEL 6
Präpositionen
Prepositions are words that describe the position of a noun (person, place, or thing). In English, some of these words are: about, under, above, by, between, for, inside, near, and to. In German, prepositions serve the same purpose. For example, “he sat under the table”, which in German is “Er sitzt unter dem Tisch.”
Each preposition belongs in a certain category depending on the case. Accusative (Akkusativ) case prepositions will always put the noun into the accusative case.
Modell 1
He drove through the tunnel.
Er fährt durch der Tunnel. INCORRECT

Some prepositions use both cases and they are known as Two-Way Prepositions. This means that the article can change. If it is moving, such as “I am hanging the picture on the wall”, the accusative case is used. However, if the noun is not moving, such as “the picture hangs on the wall”, the dative case is used.
Here is a simple way to remember which case to use with Two-Way Prepositions.
Stative = Dativ
Movative = Akkusativ
